Dear 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade Teachers,

The 39th annual Masonic Sponsored, Public Schools Spelling Bee is coming! In response to your suggestions received, we are opening-up the registration earlier to provide more time to you to choose your selections. We would like to invite and encourage all 4th, 5th, and 6th-grade teachers to select one participant from your class to be a speller/participant in this year’s Bees. If you have sponsored a participant in prior years, you know what fun this can be for the students. If you have not participated in a prior Bee, we welcome you and your student to what we think is a great motivational tool as well as a fun learning experience for the student selected.

It is one of the Masonic goals to support public education. Locally, we sponsor the Spelling Bee to spark interest and provide educators a program to help motivate your students’ growth to excellence.

And now what to do:

1. Choose one student from your class who you believe will be a good participant.

2. Register your student using the form on our website
masonicfamilycenter.com/bee Click on the tab “Registration” and complete and submit the form. Please ensure the name is complete and spelled properly as we will prepare the Student Certificate of Participation, which the student takes home on the night of the Bee, from the information submitted on their registration. The teacher information will help us contact you if there are any questions we might have in the process.

Please note, the deadline for submission for this year’s Bee is MONDAY, APRIL 8TH.

3. The participant’s letter template is provided and can be printed out at your school for you to give to the student to take home to his family to provide the date, time and location for the appropriate grade level they will compete. Hopefully, the family can reserve the date and plan to attend with their student. And of course, you, the teacher, as well as any school staff are welcome to come and share the experience. Refreshments will follow.

The dates for the 2019 Spelling Bees are as follows:

4th grade MONDAY, APRIL 15TH - 7:00 PM
5th grade TUESDAY, APRIL 16TH - 7:00 PM
6th grade WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17TH - 7:00 PM
(All Spellers must be checked in by 6:30 pm)

A “study list” of words is no longer provided to the participants. The objective of this Bee is to promote the participants’ knowledge of the rules of spelling rather than their ability to memorize.
